Born in Palo Alto, CA in 1948, Mark Heyer enjoys a wide-ranging interest in technology and its application to human society. With education in both physics and media, from the 1970s Mr. Heyer pioneered the development of interactive media, including as Sony National Market Devlopment Manager for Interactive Products in the early 80s, then as president of HeyerTech, Inc. developing specialized technical systems for clients from Apple computer to the US Department of Energy to the medical imaging industry.
With the rise of the Internet in 1996, Mr. Heyer turned his attention to industry development, as co-founder and CEO of the Silicon Valley World Internet Center, located in Palo Alto, CA. He was a primary proponent of a fiber-based information utility system (FTTH) for City of Palo Alto Utilities, a municipal utility system, running for City Council in 1999 and managing an ongoing trial system on behalf of the City.
Currently, Mr. Heyer has shifted his focus to the manifest requirement that humanity find a cure to its carbon addiction within a very short time scale. Of all the alternative energy sources available, he has identified geothermal as the source with stability, reliability, low environmental impact and nearly unlimited development potential. Using background gained from several growth cycles of the information industry, Mr. Heyer is conducting research in geothermal technology and development to identify key opportunities, hurdles and catalysts that could accelerate the growth of the industry.
Mr. Heyer lives in Palo Alto, CA with his wife and business partner, Martine, who is a real estate broker with Keller Williams. They enjoy hiking and travel. Their two adult children, Kyra and Justin live in San Francisco and London respectively.
